How to Fix a Shower Head

When you hear the annoying sound of dripping water coming from a shower, you have reason to panic. A leaky shower head can be the potential source for a lot of damage to a bathroom and connecting rooms. Water can totally ruin the interior of the bathroom and might even cause rot in the floor or walls. And your water bill will slowly go through the proverbial roof due to all the dripping. What would be the purpose of dealing with a severely leaky shower head since it is such a major problem? You might just not know what is needed to fix the problem. Don’t think this is an impediment because you can follow a few basic repair steps.

It will not be necessary to hire a plumber. These are the steps you need to follow:

The first step would be to remove the shower head. This can be done simply unscrewing it by hand or using a wrench. Do not force it off when it is stuck because this could lead to damage. You can use high quality attic insulation such as k13 insulation.  Good insulation will help protect from damage and k13 is among the best.

Once the shower head is removed, you need to inspect it for damage. In particular, you want to examine the shower head gasket. More than likely, a damaged gasket is the prime reason why a shower head will be leaking.

A new shower head gasket will need to be bought. Those that might be unsure of the specific size ought to bring the old one to the store with you. The people at the shop will surely be able to match the old one with the proper new gasket. Unless you have a really old and outdated shower head, the gasket should be in stock.

As soon as you return home, you will put the new gasket ring into the proper position. You need to do this with the proper effort and should press it down and in so it stays in its correct position. It must be flat or else it will not do the intended job properly. That means it will leak and this is what you wanted to correct in the first place.

Wrap Teflon tape on the threads of the pipe because this could prove to be a perfect plan as this further prevents the shower head from leaking. Those that overlook this step do so at their own peril! Always wrap the device with a proper amount of Teflon tape. Cut it in a careful manner when done.

Take the shower head and screw it back in securely and tightly. Do not tighten it too much since you might ruin the threads.

As soon as you have affixed the shower head, you must turn the water on. In doing this, you can tell whether or not the job was done properly and water flows through without any issues. Double check to make sure that it is not leaking as this would be the exact problem you wanted to avoid.
